In Indian television serials, various diseases are shown so as to make up a plot. Without these twists, it is difficult for the story to progress.
Here we will tell you about the 6 most common diseases which are shown in the Indian sitcoms for the script to progress.
1. Memory loss (Amnesia)
The most common disease/ailment showed on screen is memory loss. Amazingly the characters don’t lose their complete memory but only a part and that too for some time. And this part definitely includes their marriage with the lead. Meri aashiqui tum se hi, Swaragini, Saath nibhana sathiya and much more have shown this. But it is not permanent and it is only done to create the plot. Eventually, their memory comes back and they start to leave their normal life.
It is one of those common problems where the female lead or the hero’s mother is unable to bear a child. And thus everyone starts calling it a taboo. She is unable to attend any functions or celebrations. And then all of a sudden she finds a child who just loves her and the couple adopts the child. This track is seen in Nagarjun, Kala Teeka, Yeh Hai Mohobbatein, Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behena Hai and many more.
Showing a character suffering from cancer is a good way to show the exit of a character, as in the serial Tamanna, where the coach of Dhara was shown with suffering from cancer. The epic Ekta Kapoor’s serial Kasauti Zindagi Ki also showed this track. The first child of Prerna suffered from bone marrow cancer. And to make her live, Prerna gave birth to another child, whose bone marrow would be used for transplantation. Similar tracks were seen in Ek hazaaron mein meri behna hai.
The actors who want to go on a leave so is the best disease which the directors think to show which has happened to the characters. This is the best way to describe the coma scenes. The lead is in a coma and all sorts of drama are going on it the family. Then suddenly one day the character regains consciousness to fight with the evil. This could be seen in Meri Aashiqui Tum Se Hi, Sadda Haq, etc.
5. Food poisoning
It is the most common way if the characters have to change the clothes during a shot. This is one way where the character is not healthy and so the villains try to harm the love and dear ones of the family. They try to break the lead character. But suddenly the character is fine by taking just a pill and then teaches a lesson to the villain.
We saw this in Yeh rishta kya kehlata hai, where the female lead Akshara, fell down from the staircase and turned blind. She had damaged her visual connections in the brain. This helped in constructing the story. The characters in the serial are often turned blind and suddenly they regain their power of eyes and stop from happening something bad to them and their family.
